Video Idea

For my video project, I am choosing to tell the story of a typical college kid.  I will play this college kid myself, and my goal is to show how expensive college can be, and maybe offer some advice.  I plan on doing some of this video vlog style, carrying around a phone, or getting someone to film me.  I also plan to use still frames to describe certain things.  As I am showing the pictures and videos, my voice will be commentating over the visuals.  I want to talk about the overall price of college, and how it breaks down.  I might break it down by year, then semester, or maybe even weekly or daily.  I would like to show the average student loan debt, and give some tips (I don't have many) to get financial aid, or help reduce costs.  I also want to show students what they can expect, and show them hidden fees that I did not think about when I came to college, as they are much more extensive then one might assume.  I would also like to show students coming in to college, or even kids in college already, how to save a quick buck.  When I make this project, I will definitely have a scene of me going to brower, or one of the dining halls to describe how the meal plans work, and what the best strategy is for saving money on food in college.  Not only will I describe how to use the dining halls to your advantage, but how to save money on extra food that students buy outside of the dining halls.  I would also like to have a scene to talk about the dorms.  I will probably have a picture of my dorm, and maybe some on the inside.  I will simultaneously describe the hidden fees in the dorm, and how to best handle them.  Next I will tackle the price of books in college, which are ridiculous, and offer some advice to keep costs low while still having everything needed for a student's courses.  The entire video will be filmed on Rutgers Campus and most of the pictures and information will be based on my experience, as well as advice I have learned from others.  I think this is a good idea for a video because it is from someone who just graduated high school, but is now adjusted to the college lifestyle.  I am right in the perfect spot to offer advice to high school students, however I am not that far removed from high school that I have forgotten how overwhelmed they feel.  Also, this video will not be sponsored by a university, or anyone trying to make money, so it is genuine. That is my main target audience for this project, high school seniors and juniors.  These students need this information the most, in order to narrow their college lists down, but it could also help students that are already in college to cut costs.
